It all started with a passion for a fruit, the mango, which is originally from Southern Asia and India. The mango being the most widely consumed fresh fruit in the world is known and loves by many. The production worldwide exceeds 17 million metric tons a year. We have plenty for everyone to taste and indulge.
The mango is also produced and consumed in Africa. In West Africa it was used as a nutritional supplement for those suffering from malnutrition. It is a good source of vitamin A, vitamin B6 and vitamin C. It became a dietary supplement for the villagers but also a mean to improve their way of life.
The fresh fruit can only be preserved for a certain period of time. The production being very high during the harvest season, the mangoes rotten and have to be disposed. In action to this problem woman in West Africa have decided to dry the mangoes in order to preserve them for a longer period of time, but also to commercialize them. Most of the producers are part of the Fair trade Market, and their activities have helped change and improve their communities and the life of many.
